QMTBC Recieves funding Grant from Central Lakes Trust

Th QMTBC has been successful in securing funding from the Central Lakes Trust.

The Queenstown Mountain Bike Club has received a grant of $19,500 to assist with developing new mountain bike trails in three recreation parks in Queenstown.

Recently awarded a Trustpower Community Award for the development work done to date on the trails as the first stage of the programme, Queenstown Mountain Bike Club plan to extend existing and develop new mountain bike trails for use by the wider Central Lakes community.

Trustees noted that the formal partnerships entered into between Queenstown Mountain Bike Club, Department of Conservation and Queenstown Lakes District Council ensures the trails will remain for public use.

This trail programme is one element of the Wakatipu Trails Trust strategy, and this second stage of the trail development programme will see new trails at Wynyard Freestyle Terrain Park (Ben Lomond), Seven Mile (Queenstown) and Jardine Park (Kelvin Heights).

Duncan Butcher noted that recent SPARC research shows that around 17,000 people in the Otago / Southland region took part in mountain biking activity in a 12 month period, which shows that it is a valued recreational pursuit in our community.
