The Queenstown Mountain Bike Club has come out on top at the annual Trust Power Queenstown Lakes District Community Awards held at Oak Ridge Resort, Wanaka last night.
The club was nominated in the Sports and Leisure Category for its 7 Mile, Gorge Rd and Jardines Reserve Trail areas developed over the last two years and was the picked as the regional winner for 2009 in this category.
However a bigger honour was bestowed on the club in winning the 2009 Supreme Award in recognition of the great community assets and efforts the club has achieved for its trails areas and events such as the Gorge Rd Jams, the 7 hours at 7 mile event and the Wynyard Jam.
The QMTBC will now go onto represent the Queenstown Lakes District in the National Community Awards held in Nelson in on March 13th 2010. So this will be a great chance for all members to assist and promote over the summer months. The club would like to build on this recognition and we asks all club members to help keep the trails in top shape by volunteering help on trail maintenance days at the clubs trail days in the upcoming months – watch out for notifications of trail days and of course our club events and rides.
