One Square Meal Round 2 – and Round 2 of the National Series

3 cx racers on podium
Logan Horn (2nd, Wellington), Alex Revell (1st, Christchurch), Mark Legg-Compton (3rd, USA)
Similar conditions to race 1 prevailed for race 2 of the OSM Series – frosty hard-pack, frozen course. 50 riders competed in the race, which included a ‘Specialized Spiral’ adding a minute or so to the race times. USA Cyclocross professionals Mark Legg-Compton and Katie Compton lead from the start. Mark was hard pushed by Dan Warren (Hastings), until both were overtaken by Alex Revell (Wellington) and Logan Horn (Christchurch), Alex eventually took out the race ahead of Logan in second Mark in third place. Local favourite Gavin Mason (Wanaka) ate too many pies this week and ended up breaking his seat post in half.
3 cx racers on podium
Kim Hammer-Hurst (2nd, Upper Hutt), Katie Compton (1st, USA), Anya McDonald (3rd, Dunedin)
Katie was chased by Kim Hammer-Hurst and Anya McDonald, but was too strong for her NZ rivals and the females finished in that order. Lots of spectators lined the course and shouted encouragement to all riders, along with plenty of peer pressure for some of the water features. Fantastic venue and atmosphere. Next race Sunday 22 July at 10am, same place. Special thanks to all the sponsors - One Square Meal, Van Asch Wines, Element, Remarkables Park, and to the volunteers in particular Brendan, Sarah, T-Man, Lance, Nath, Tom, Antony, Brent and Paul (Bike NZ). An extra special thanks Queenstown Mountain Bike Club President Tom Hey for auctioning off the cross bike he fairly won through a raffle, earning another $1300 for the Club. Thanks Tom!
