Cyclocross Update

Race 3 of the Wintergames Series and Race 6 of the National Cyclocross Series

Entry's only taken on the day.  $30 per rider.  Course is at the Wynyard Freestyle Mountain Bike Park (don't be scared, we won't make you ride the Dream Track!).  Access to the Park is via Fernhill Rd, Wynyard Crescent, Thomson St or One Mile.  It is bit of a technical course - make sure your brakes work well and perhaps have a bit more pressure in those tyres than usual to avoid pinch flats.  The course will be open for practice from 9am on race day Sun 25th Aug.  Race starts 11.30 with a kids shortened loop, and 1pm for the open race. This is also the third and final race of the WintergamesNZ series.  A series prizegiving will take place at 3pm following the race in town, at Earnslaw Park, Queenstown. Then have a couple of days off before the National Series final in Dunedin the following weekend.

The Course ...

... normally reserved for the countries elite downhill mountain bikers, the park will be transformed into a cyclocross course like no other in New Zealand (possibly the world). Riders, and spectators, will be treated to a lot of hard-core grassroots riding, including gruelling running and walking sections, technical climbs, hair raising descents and lots of thick Wakatipu mud!  When NZCX said it was up to event organisers to set courses they may not have been thinking of this! The technical and demanding nature of the course could make this a ‘race of attrition’ as the course will certainly test the Wintergames athletes fitness, their bike handling skills and their bikes to the max! The Wynyard Freestyle Bike Park can be accessed with a short walk from Wynyard Crescent, Fernhill Road, One Mile Reserve or Thomson Street.
