An indescribable sadness hit Queenstown this week with the news that local legend Kelly McGarry passed away.
Our thoughts are with his partner Samantha & his family at this difficult time. Kelly was a larger than life character in every sense & was a legend both at home & abroad, but at the same time he was just your typical down-to-earth, approachable kiwi bloke that would spin a yarn to everyone and anyone.
He was known as a hugely inspiring rider & mentor over the course of his career. Kelly will leave a huge hole in both the local Queenstown riding community and the greater worldwide mountain biking scene that he was so passionate about.
Come and celebrate an absolute legends life in true Queenstown and McGazza style.
We are going to finish Kelly’s ride for him and then have an official commemoration to celebrate like he would have afterwards.
Meet at the top of Fernhill Loop, by the start of Salmon Run at 5.30pm on Friday 5th February.
You can ride up via Beeched As like Kelly did or walk up via the fernhill loop track from the Wynyard. Then we will shred down to the Wynyard and have a party!
Expert riders can ride salmon run and others can ride or walk down the walking track down to the Wynyard bike park where Kelly’s casket will be available for friends to pay their respects and then do him proud by having a good old party!
The more GC’s the better so share around so anyone who can make it can see Kelly out in style!
There will be a formal service for close friends and family in Nelson on Monday.
