RIDERS CODE

Before you roll into your first laps of the Ben Lomond Trails this season, the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and QLDC would like to share their new Rider Code Of Conduct with you and outline the ways you can help to keep yourself and others safe on the trails this season..
Protect yourself:
-
Stay in control at all times and ride within your ability
-
Helmets are mandatory and we strongly recommend wearing other protective equipment as well.
-
Do not ride if your ability and judgement is impaired by fatigue, alcohol or drugs.
-
Inspect and maintain your bike before you ride
-
Inspect trails and features before you ride them, conditions in the park constantly change.
-
Pre-ride, Re-ride before you Free-ride!
-
Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
Safety first:
-
The Ben Lomond Trails are NOT patrolled. In an emergency please call 111 for assistance.
-
If you see any hazards or tree debris, please report it on Trailforks so we can get the trail crew to fix them up and keep everyone riding safely.
-
Fire is one of the biggest risks in the Ben Lomond Scenic Reserve over summer. Please do not smoke on the trails or light any fires. If you discover a fire, get to a safe area and dial 111 immediately.
-
Do not ride down the access road – it is for emergency, maintenance and construction personnel only.
Look out for others:
-
Give way to other riders when entering a trail
-
Look out for other riders and assist them if there has been an accident.
-
Pass with care – give them a shout! And if someone is stuck behind you, pop to the side and let them pass.
Respect the trails:
-
If it’s closed, it's closed! Please respect all trail closures.
-
Do not ride the trails if they are excessively wet. If mud is sticking to your tires and bike frame, it's time to go home!
Pirate Trails:
-
Building and riding pirate trails in the Ben Lomond Reserve is illegal. Anyone caught in the act of building new pirate trails (including loam lines) will be banned from the Ben Lomond Reserve and will have their uplift pass revoked.
